SR 1/Dupont Road Scheduled for Restriction Friday, May 14
Restrictions scheduled for 6 p.m.; expected to be complete by midnightThe Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Fort Wayne District announces that SR 1/Dupont Road will be restricted from just east of Tonkel Road for about one quarter mile down to River Rapids Run beginning Friday, May 14.
SR 1 will be restricted to one lane in each direction until about midnight Friday. Flaggers will maintain traffic control throughout the project while lanes are
being paved.Funding for this added travel lanes project is through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
This restriction takes place on the heels of Highway Work Zone Safety Awareness Week, an annual event to remind motorists of work zone hazards. The awareness campaign promotes safety in work zones by advising drivers to slow down, minimize distractions, and allow ample time to reach destinations.
In 2009, 700 people were killed nationwide in work zones. Most of the fatalities were not highway workers but drivers. Additional work zone safety information can be found at www.WorkZoneSafety.IN.gov.
