Press release from Lutheran Health Network:
Lutheran Health Network to Add Services in New Haven
New 9,000 square-foot medical facility to be located at site of former Scott’s Foods(March 30, 2010) – Representatives from Lutheran Health Network, the City of New Haven and Allen County will gather Wednesday, March 31, to kick off the ceremonial start of construction on a $1.9 million medical facility that will bring expanded healthcare options to communities east of Fort Wayne. The medical facility will be located at 1302 Minnich Road at the site of a former Scott’s Foods and will initially employ the equivalent of 16 full-time employees, 11 of whom will be new to the workforce in New Haven.
A “wallbreaking” is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. to celebrate the beginning of exterior demolition at the site, which will be transformed into a 9,000 square-foot medical facility over the next five months. When completed, the facility will house four physicians, including at least two in primary care and a rotating list of specialists practicing in fields such as orthopaedics, cardiology and neurology. Patients using the facility will also be able to access radiology services provided by St. Joseph Hospital and blood draws in an adjacent lab.
Mayor Terry McDonald believes Lutheran Health Network’s decision to add services in New Haven sends a strong message that the city continues to be a prime location for continued development. “Lutheran Health Network realizes what we’ve known all along that New Haven is a great area for growth,” said McDonald. “In many cases, the economic health of a community is often closely tied to the overall health of its residents. The addition of new healthcare options at a site that has long been an anchor of our community fills an important need for the city and has the real potential to serve as a springboard for much more.”
Almost 4,300 square-feet of the facility will be shelled to accommodate future growth. The owner of the facility is JKBC properties and the developer is Sperry Van Ness. MSKTD & Associates Inc. is handling the design services for the project. Lutheran Health Network, which will be the primary tenant, has spearheaded the work to bring physicians, technicians and new services to the plaza.
“Throughout the years, residents of New Haven have chosen Lutheran Health Network for many of their healthcare needs,” said Mike Schatzlein, chief executive officer, Lutheran Health Network. “This development acknowledges that choice and provides greater access for those residents and the growing population of New Haven and surrounding communities.”
The strip where the medical facility will be located currently houses Fresenius Medical Care, which offers multiple dialysis centers in the area, and Physiotherapy Associates. Lease arrangements for the specific physicians and groups who will have clinics at the medical facility are still being finalized.
The plaza is located at the southwest corner of Minnich Road and Highway 930.
