Press release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Fort Wayne Police, National League of Cities team up for immigrant child-safety workshop
Space still available for free session Friday at Public Safety Academy

Through Fort Wayne’s participation in the National League of Cities’ Municipal Action for Immigrant Integration program, the City of Fort Wayne, NLC and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will offer a one-time workshop focusing on the protection of children through integration of immigrant communities.

The free workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, May 14 at the Public Safety Academy, 7602 Patriot Crossing. It is designed for people who work with children in schools, plus law enforcement and community, multicultural and faith-based organizations.

“As Mayor, I am committed to making Fort Wayne a great, safe place to live and a real hometown for all residents, whether native or new,” said Mayor Tom Henry. “Our All-America City is stronger and more vibrant because of its diversity. Protecting our children must always be our highest priority. This workshop will help to ensure that we are doing everything possible to keep those most vulnerable secure.”

The half-day event will concentrate on increased awareness of immigrant children at risk and ways to integrate immigrant populations. The session will provide a structural format for dialogue and engagement, along with proactive strategies. It will also address the role of the NCMEC and implementation of NCMEC resources and strategies locally.

To register or for more information, contact Ricardo Robles in the Fort Wayne Police Department at 427-5267 or ricardo.robles@cityoffortwayne.org. Participating organizations need to sign a memorandum of understanding for the MAII program to take part in the workshop.
