Press release from the Allen County Board of Commissioners:

Commissioners Adopt Formal Public Records Policy
Details process for requesting records and response expectations

The Allen County Board of Commissioners today approved a formal policy for its departments designed to promote full access to the County’s public records.

The Allen County Public Records Policy explains the process for making a request to inspect or copy public records and documents, the response process and the fees associated with copying any documents. Also included is an optional form that can be filled out and submitted to the County’s Public Information Office when access to public records is being sought.

“The formalization of this policy helps to ensure that the County remains in compliance with the provisions of the state’s Access to Public Records Act while also assuring continued public confidence in County government,” said Linda Bloom, president of the Board of Commissioners. Copies of the policy and public records request forms will be available at each of the County Commissioners’ departments. The policy and form will also be made available on the County’s website.

“It’s our hope that by providing a more clearly defined policy, we can eliminate some of the confusion and misunderstandings that can occur when people or organizations seek access to public records,” said Mike Green, Public Information Officer.
