Parkview Women’s Health Center to host upcoming events

(April 29, 2010) Parkview’s Women’s Health Center will host several upcoming events. The programs will be held at the Women’s Health Center on the Parkview North campus, entrance 2, Medical Office Building, 11123 Parkview Plaza Dr. Registration for the events is required by calling (260) 672-6500.

Unfolding Anxiety, Depression and Bipolar Disorder
6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, May 6
Colleen Sanderson, Parkview Behavioral Health, will lead a discussion about a variety of mental disorders and how people can become educated to increase awareness and assistance. Sanderson will also explain how people can live a healthier lifestyle while dealing with a disorder. The event is free.

National Women’s Check-Up Day
7-9 a.m. Tuesday, May 11
5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 12

Check-ups are vital to early detection of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, mental health illnesses, and other disorders. Several screenings will be available:

  • Personal wellness profile (blood chemistry 17 test) $35
  • Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) $20
  • Hearing $13
  • Bone density (free)
  • Oral cancer (free)
  • Colon – receive an EZ Detect kit (free)

Postpartum Pals Mom Time
11 a.m. Thursday, May 20

Katie Blosser, First Steps, will discuss the importance of early intervention services for infants and children who are developmentally disabled. There is no charge to attend.

Cool and Healthy Cooking for the Summer Heat
6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, May 20

Parkview dietitians will discuss how to prepare light and healthy meals without having to use significant sources of heat. Participants will also get to sample cool and refreshing dishes. The cost is $10 for Women’s Health Center members and $20 for non-members.
