FWCS driver education enrollment underway

Press release from Fort Wayne Community Schools:

FWCS driver education enrollment underway
Enrollment for Fort Wayne Community Schools’ summer sessions of driver education is underway.

(April 27, 2010) FWCS will offer two sessions this summer at Anthis Career Center, 1200 S. Barr St. Session one runs from June 14-July 2; session two runs from July 12-30. The courses are open to any student, whether they attend FWCS or not, who is at least 15 years old before the session he or she enrolls in begins. Students who are younger than 15 ½ years old and enrolling in a summer session must receive their learner permit before July 1, when a new state law takes effect. Students who receive a driver education learner permit before July 1 may attend driver education at 15 years old. Those who obtain the permit on or after July 1 must be at least 15 years and 180 days old.

The student also must be currently enrolled and in good standing with a high school. The State of Indiana requires perfect attendance to receive Driver Education Certification; therefore, students with conflicts during class hours, such as extracurricular activities or jobs, should not enroll.

Students can enroll in classroom only instruction, which is $85, driving instruction and road test, which is $310, or both for $395.

For more information, visit the FWCS Web site at www.fwcs.k12.in.us or call 467-1089. Enrollment deadline for Summer Session I is May 29; the enrollment deadline for Summer Session II is June 25.
