Press release from the TinCaps:
Fans invited to meet the TinCaps on Wednesday
Public workout begins at 5 p.m.; autograph session to followFans can get a sneak peek at the 2010 Fort Wayne TinCaps at the “Meet the Team” event Wednesday, April 7 at Parkview Field. A public workout begins at approximately 5 p.m., with an autograph session to follow. Admission is free.
“One of the best parts about Minor League Baseball is that the players are so accessible,” TinCaps president Mike Nutter said. “The Meet the Team event gives our fans a chance to watch the guys practice a day before Opening Day and maybe pick out their favorite players.”
This year’s roster includes OF Everett Williams, the San Diego Padres’ second-round selection in last year’s draft, INF Edinson Rincon, the Padres’ No. 9 prospect according to Baseball America and RHP Dexter Carter, one of four players acquired in the trade that sent RHP Jake Peavy to the Chicago White Sox last season. Six TinCaps were drafted in the 10th round or earlier.
Manager Jose Flores joins the TinCaps after two seasons in the Arizona Rookie League. He is joined by pitching coach Bronswell Patrick, who moves up from short-season Eugene. Hitting coach Tom Tornincasa returns for his eighth season in Fort Wayne.
Tickets are still available for each game on Opening Weekend. The TinCaps open the season Thursday, April 8 at 7:05 p.m. against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A Tampa Bay Rays). The first three games of the season serve as the TinCaps’ championship celebration. Thirsty Thursday drink specials are in effect on Opening Night with a fireworks show to follow. The first 2,009 fans to enter the ballpark on Friday receive a replica Midwest League championship ring. On Saturday, the first 2,009 fans receive commemorative championship posters featuring Robert Lara’s game winning home run in last year’s playoffs.
Tickets, group outings and picnics for the TinCaps’ 2010 season are on sale now. Visit TinCaps.com or call (260) 482-6400 for more information.
