Parkview accepting nominations for Cancer Care Award

Press release from Parkview Health:

Parkview accepting nominations for Cancer Care Award

(March 1, 2010) Parkview’s Comprehensive Cancer Center is accepting nominations for the Parkview Cancer Care Award. The award honors the dedication, determination, innovation, sacrifices, and courage of those whose efforts improve the quality of life for people who have cancer.

The award is presented annually to an individual (layperson or healthcare professional) and/or an organization selected by a committee from among nominations received. Winners may be chosen for their efforts in a variety of areas that range from providing encouragement, compassion or hope, developing a unique solution, creating a healthier environment, educating the public for patient-focused change, and creating easier access to services and screenings.

“There are so many people who play a part in fighting cancer or lifting up people who are personally battling the disease,” said Rae Gonterman, RN, MSN, executive director, Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center. “This award process provides an opportunity for some of their truly inspiring stories to be told.”

Winners from 2009 – the first year for the Cancer Care Award:

  • Parkview Hospital nurse case manager Kathy Schaffer, a breast cancer survivor and facilitator of two support groups.
  • The Columbia City High School Lady Eagles Soccer Team, whose members auctioned off pink jerseys they wore in a game to raise money for mammograms for women in need.

Each winner will receive custom artwork commissioned specifically for the award program, as well as recognition on a plaque in a display at the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center. Winners will be announced this spring.  Nominations will be accepted through April 30. Forms require basic contact information and a short description of the nominee’s activities.

Nomination forms are available at the registration desk at the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center on the Parkview North campus or on the cancer section at www.parkview.com. Questions may be directed to Debi
Kennedy at (260) 266-9180 or debi.kennedy@parkview.com.
