If you’re looking for something to do Saturday, here are a couple of good events:

North Side hosts annual jazz festival
The annual North Side Jazz Festival is Saturday, Feb. 20, with guest artist tenor sax player Mike Tomaro. The festival features 29 area high school and middle school jazz bands and combos. The groups will be performing from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. At 4 p.m., Mike Tomaro will present a musical clinic. The evening concert begins at 5 p.m. with the two top jazz bands from the day’s contest. The concert will continue with North Side’s award winning jazz band the Wildsiders. The concert will conclude with a performance by the New Millennium Jazz Orchestra and Tomaro. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Students put their skills to the test at SkillsUSA competition
Anthis Career Center will host a SkillsUSA regional competition from 7:45 a.m.-noon Saturday, Feb. 20. This event highlights those dedicated to a future in vocational studies. Competitions at Anthis, 1200 S. Barr St., include cosmetology, nursing, EMT training, criminal justice, fire science, culinary arts, automotive technology, aviation, job skills, visual technology and many others. At the Anthis Career Center Construction Trades Building, 230 E. Douglas Ave., competitions will include building trades, teamwork, residential wiring, plumbing, masonry, cabinetry and building maintenance. Spectators are
encouraged to attend around 10 a.m. More than 280 juniors and seniors from are area will be competing in the events.
