The Biggest Tailgate of the Season – 1/28/2010

The Fort Wayne Sport Corporation, The Notre Dame Club of Fort Wayne Scholarship Fund and the American Red Cross are teaming up to raise funds for all three programs by hosting the Biggest Tailgate of the Season.

A Chicago Cubs VIP ticket package that includes your son or daughter being batboy for a game, Notre Dame Ticket packages, Eric Wedge attending your backyard barbeque this summer and much more will be auctioned at this year’s event.

The Fort Wayne Sports Corporation’s mission is to attract, create and promote sports and sports-related events that have positive economic and social impact; enhance the image of the greater Fort Wayne area; and improve the quality of life for area residents and sports/health enthusiasts.

Speakers:

Jack Swarbrick, University of Notre Dame Director of Athletics
Born in Yonkers, NY, and raised in Yonkers and Bloomington, Indiana, John B. “Jack” Swarbrick Jr. is a 1976 magna cum laude graduate of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in economics.  Swarbrick is also a graduate of Stanford University Law School and has risen to national prominence as a lawyer, consultant and executive in the collegiate and Olympic sports industries.  In July 2008, Swarbrick was named Notre Dame’s 12th Director of Athletics.  He has been an influential member of the Indiana Sports Corporation.

Eric Wedge, Manager of the Cleveland Indians, 2002-2009
Eric Wedge began his baseball career in the Wallen Baseball League in northwest Fort Wayne.  In 1983, as a freshman catcher at Northrup, Eric was part of the Bruins’ IHSAA State Championship Team.  In October of 2002 Wedge was named Manager of the Cleveland Indians.  In 2007, the Tribe won the American League Central Division.  In November of   2007, Eric Wedge was named American League Manager of the Year.  Aside from his success on the field, Eric is a husband and father.  On January 30, 2010 he will instruct local youth at the 6th Annual Eric Wedge Baseball Camp at the Ash Centre in Fort Wayne.
