Press release from Fort Wayne Community Schools:

Students showcase their work

The Fort Wayne Area Council PTA will host its annual Reflections and Citizenship Showcase from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, in the Great Hall of the Main Branch of the Allen County Public Library.

More than 100 pieces of student work will be on display.

The Reflections competition is open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. This year’s theme is “Beauty is…” Students expressed themselves through literature, visual art, photography, dance choreography, film and video production, and musical omposition. The best projects from each school will be displayed in the showcase before being sent to the state competition later this spring.

School winners of the Citizenship Essay contest will also be on display. The Essay contest is open to students in fourth through 12th grades. This year’s theme is “What the American Flag Means to Me.” The essays on display Sunday also will be entered in the state competition.

“We hope the community will join us in this multi-faceted celebration of the arts, and help us wish a hearty congratulations to all of our talented students,” said Diane Brow, chairwoman of the Reflections/Citizenship Committee. “It has been a pleasure and honor to have a first-hand look at the creativity of the kids.”

Winners of the state competition will be announced at the Indiana PTA Convention in April and will then move on to the 40th Annual National Competition in Washington, D.C.
