Fire Department/EMS Team Win the 15th Annual Battle for Blood
New Year’s Eve Drive starts Wednesday

The Fire Department/EMS team beat the Police Department team in this year’s Battle for Blood with the Fire Department/EMS team receiving 692 votes and the Police Department team receiving 630 votes. The Battle for Blood helped build the blood supply during the critical holiday season by collecting 1,093 pints of blood on a goal of 1,000 and 545 platelet products on a goal of 500. Sponsors of the event included Indiana’s NewsCenter, WBCL and Pizza Hut.

This New Year’s Eve, continue the holiday spirit and resolve to help save a life through blood donation. Join MAJIC 95.1 and the American Red Cross for this year’s New Years Eve Blood Drive. There are two locations in Fort Wayne where you can donate:

Fort Wayne Donor Center, located at 1212 E. California Rd. (across from the Memorial Coliseum)

  • Wednesday, Dec. 30 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 31: 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Lutheran Hospital Donor Center, located at 7900 W. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 107 (in the South lobby of Lutheran Hospital near the gift shop)

  • Wednesday, Dec. 30: 12 noon – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 31: 6 a.m. – 12 noon

All presenting donors at this blood drive will receive a coupon for a free 9-inch one-topping personal pan size pizza from Papa Murphy’s.

How to Donate Blood
To schedule an appointment to donate please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit RedCrossBlood.org for more information. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate.

The Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region serves northern and central Indiana and northwestern Ohio, and needs to collect about 500 units of blood a day to meet patient need in more than 60 hospitals. In addition to providing blood to our community, the American Red Cross also provides relief to victims of disaster, trains millions in lifesaving skills, serves as a communication link between U.S. military members and their families, and assists victims of international disasters or conflicts.
