Adult Classes to Improve Technical Skills
Deadlines Approaching

Would you like to develop your computer skills in 2010? The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following classes for adults:

Photo Magic 18+, Tuesdays Jan. 12 – Feb. 16, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Make your digital photos “picture perfect” by adjusting tone, contrast or hue; adding or deleting items; cropping and re-sizing; removing red-eye and more. We will use Photoshop Elements 6. You should have a photo editing program on your personal computer. Some experience with Microsoft Windows, file management, cut/copy/paste tools, word processing and internet surfing is required. Registration deadline: Jan. 5. Fee: $68. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main. St.

MS Excel 50+, Wednesdays Jan. 13 – Feb. 17, 8:30 – 10:30 am
Excel (versions 2000-2003) is a powerful, yet relatively easy-to-master tool for organizing, analyzing and displaying information such as personal finances, your Christmas card list or an inventory. You will learn how to enter data, create formulas and display charts. Experience with windows, file management, word processing and the cut, copy and paste tools is required. Registration deadline: Jan. 6. Fee: $36. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main. St.

Windows Vista/7 (18+ and 50+) Wednesdays Jan. 13 – March 17, 6:30 – 8:30 pm (18+) 10:45 am – 12:45 pm (50+) and Thursdays Jan. 14 – March 18, 1 – 3 pm (50+)
Our Windows classes are designed for those with little or no computer experience. You will learn very basic terminology, hardware, components of a window and how to manipulate a window. You will then learn how to cut, copy and paste text, graphics and files. These tasks are common to just about every computer program. Finally, you will learn how to organize your files so they are easy to locate as well as tricks for finding files when they do get misplaced. Registration deadline: Jan. 6. Fee: $45. Get the Picture Digitally 18+, Thursdays Jan. 14 – March 18, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Your photos will be more memorable once you learn a few camera basics and photography skills such as lighting, exposure, camera adjustments, the mechanics of photographic composition and developing good photographic technique. These classes are strictly for digital cameras with multiple settings. Registration deadline: Jan. 7. Fee: $68. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main. St.

eBay: Buy & Sell 50+, Fridays Jan. 1 – Feb. 19, 9:30 – 11:30 am
Learn how to register with eBay and PayPal, learn about security and how to create
an e-mail account, how bidding works, the “My eBay” page, member profiles and feedback points, learn auction costs, how to take pictures of your item, write a description, upload your photos, set your price, receive payment and ship your item to the buyer. By the last class, you should be ready to auction your first item! Experience in windows, file management, word processing, internet surfing and cut/copy/paste tools is required. Registration deadline: Jan. 8. Fee: $36. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main. St.

Word 2000 – 2003 50+, Fridays Jan. 15 – Feb. 19, 1 – 3 pm
The uses for a word processing program are endless. Learn the tools and commands that
allow you to create, save, format, edit, check your spelling and print your document using Microsoft Word, versions 2000-2003. Must have experience with Windows, file management and cut/copy/paste tools. Registration deadline: Jan. 8. Fee: $36. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main. St.
