Press release from the City of Fort Wayne:
Businesses embrace Green City Fort Wayne
Green companies growThe list of Fort Wayne businesses embracing green initiatives continues to grow. Seven City businesses completed their Green City Business certification recently. The City of Fort Wayne sponsors the free program.
The most recently certified businesses are Central Branch YMCA, Jorgensen Family YMCA, Primary Engineering, Inc., Viridian Architectural Design, Inc., Fort Wayne Wire Die, Inc., A. Hattersley & Sons, Inc., and Weigand Construction.
A total of 16 businesses achieved Green City status in the first year of Fort Wayne’s Energy and Environmental Services Green City Business program. The nationally recognized program helps businesses and organizations adopt more environmentally friendly business practices and save on energy costs. Through the program’s mentoring component, Green City Businesses serve as a resource and example to other businesses and organizations in the community.
In 2009, the City has conducted three Green City Business training sessions attended by 77 businesses. The free training sessions provide consolidated resource education, a business matched mentor to assist in the certification process, access to online resources, and the opportunity to connect with other businesses pursuing the same goal.
The next free half-day Green City Business training session will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. More information about the Green City Business program can be found online. Registration is required and can be completed online or by contacting Julia Gorrell at 427-6059. The registration deadline is Friday February 5, 2009.
