Youth Center Holiday Events

The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department is offering several FREE family events at Weisser Youth Center (802 Eckart Street) to celebrate the festive season. Complimentary food will be provided.

Friday, December 11: African Scholar Anthony T. Browder, 6 pm – 8 pm.
Browder, who is the founder and director of the Institute of Karmic Guidance and provides African centered tours of Egypt and Washington, D.C., will speak and present a dynamic slide show.

Tuesday, December 22: Neighborhood Programs Holiday Dinner, 3:30 pm – 5 pm.
This meal features holiday favorites such as ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce and various cakes and pies.

Monday, December 28 & Tuesday, December 29: Neighborhood Programs Kwanzaa Celebration, 3:30p – 4:30 pm. Kwanzaa is a celebration of family, community and culture and these evenings provide an opportunity to showcase the seven principles of the African culture: Umoja (unity); Kujichagulia (self-determination); Ujima (collective work and responsibility); Ujamaa (cooperative economics); Nia (purpose); Kuumba (creativity); and Imani (faith).

Wednesday, December 30, Neighborhood Programs Community Celebration, 6 pm – 8 pm. Kweku Akan, SBA Academy Founder, will speak and dinner will be served.

Thursday, December 31, Neighborhood Programs Community Celebration, 6 pm – 8 pm. A variety of performers will entertain guests during the meal.

Holiday operating hours at Jennings, Cooper and Weisser Youth Centers:

December 21 – December 23: 12 noon – 5 pm
December 24 and December 25: CLOSED
December 28 and December 29: 12 noon – 5 pm
December 30 and December 31: 2 pm – 8 pm
January 1 – 3: CLOSED
