Lutheran Hospital Offers Cardiac Risk Reduction Classes to Help Turn New Year’s Resolutions into Lifelong Habits

(Wednesday, December 9, 2009) As a leader in cardiac care, Lutheran Hospital is committed to providing educational opportunities to promote heart health. For those who are looking to take a healthy first step in 2010, Lutheran Hospital’s nutritional services department is offering two six-week classes to help reduce cardiovascular and heart disease. Registered dietitians will help attendees separate fact from fad and translate the latest nutritional findings into practical food choices.

Lutheran’s registered dietitian facilitating the class will:

  • Identify cardiac risk markers;
  • Provide nutrition principles for a healthy heart;
  • Discuss the benefits of plant-based eating;
  • Teach how to grocery shop and eat out in a heart-healthy way;
  • Provide assistance with meal preparation for hands-on learning.

Classes take place from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. Two convenient options are available.

  • Jan. 12 – Feb. 16 Jorgenson YMCA $70 for Y members - 10313 Aboite Center Rd. $85 nonmembers
  • Feb. 23 – Mar. 30 Lutheran Hospital, lower level near cafeteria 7950 W. Jefferson Blvd. $85
