Ongoing Holiday happenings at the Conservatory

Press release from Parks and Recreation:

Ongoing Holiday Happenings at the Conservatory

If you missed the Holiday Kick-off Party, there’s still plenty of time to enjoy festive activities at the Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun Street.

Thursdays and Fridays in December
The facility will remain open until 8 pm on Thursdays and Fridays in December. As a special added bonus, Thursday evenings will feature free make-it/take-it holiday crafts and an animated music and light show will add a magical glow to the terrace garden.

Santa & the Reindeer, Saturdays, December 5, 12 & 19, 12 – 4 pm
Santa and two live reindeer will be on site to greet the children while Mom and Dad take pictures to capture the moment. Explore the Conservatory in its holiday glory – this year’s theme is “Downtown Landmarks”. Enjoy scale models of buildings past and present such as the Baker Street Train Station, the Lincoln Tower, and the Keenan Hotel. Regular Conservatory admission fees apply.

Science Fun for Everyone: Reindeer Aerodynamics, December 5 & 19, 11 am & 2 pm
Have you ever wondered what it would take to really get Rudolph off the ground? Working with the four forces of flight, different types of propulsion and parabolic trajectories, we might not get our little stuffed reindeer around the world, but we’ll at least get him across the room. No reservations needed, just drop in.

Pinata Paradise, Through December 6
Piñatas are a traditional part of Mexican Christmas celebrations. Enjoy our creative display in the Desert Garden, designed and decorated by area children. At the end of the display the candy-filled creations are donated to local children’s agencies for their holiday celebrations.

Downtown Landmarks, Through January 3
Get a new perspective on downtown Fort Wayne with models of city landmark buildings past and present, set among the poinsettias. The Lincoln Tower, Baker Street Station, Keenan Hotel and Embassy Theatre, created by local architectural firms, are on display in the garden along with artifacts and information. Test your knowledge of landmark buildings with an interactive exhibit. Historical photographs, a life-size interurban car, and festive holiday lights and decorations will make this display a fun visit for the holidays. The featured architectural firms are Design Collaborative, Inc.; Martin-Riley Architects-Engineers; Moake Park Group, Inc. and MSKTD & Associates, Inc.  Related AFW Blog posts
