Press release from the Downtown Improvement District (DID):

Kick Off the Holiday Season Downtown with the Annual Night of Lights and So Much More!

On Wednesday, November 25, Downtown HolidayFest 2009 kicks off with one of Fort Wayne’s most celebrated holiday traditions, the Night of Lights—Downtown’s official holiday lighting ceremony.

It all begins at 6:15 pm with the official lighting of Santa and his reindeer at the National City Bank (now a part of PNC) at Main and Calhoun Streets. Then bundled up merry makers will journey down the newly renovated Calhoun Street, picking up a free cup of hot chocolate courtesy of local restaurants to warm their way.

At the corner of Wayne and Calhoun, we will reveal the brand new Wells Fargo Holiday Lighting display and power up the Indiana Michigan Power “Merry Christmas” Wreath at One Summit Square.

Following this ceremony, Mayor Henry will hop aboard a festively-decorated, horse-drawn carriage and process with the Mizpah Chanters singing Christmas carols all the way to the Botanical Conservatory (11oo S. Calhoun) where followers will be encouraged to delight in the other festivities going on that evening.

And the holiday fun downtown doesn’t stop after the lighting ceremony! Downtown HolidayFest continues through the entire holiday season with performances, festivals, art events and so much more. Look for “Downtown Improvement Elves” who will be handing out information during the lighting ceremony or, for a complete list of lighting ceremony activities as well as a comprehensive holiday calendar, visit www.DowntownHolidayFest.com.
