Unique November Classes: Registration deadlines approaching

Are you game for something new and fun? The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following November classes for adults at the Community Center, 233 W. Main St.:

Casual Elegance: Polymer Clay Jewelry Making, Tuesdays Nov. 10 – 17, 6 – 8:30 pm
Create your own colorful jewelry using polymer clay, a malleable material that comes in an array of colors that can be custom blended into an infinite number of hues. You can create pieces ranging from playful to tailored, from casual to sophisticated. The essence of every piece is a striking combination of color and unique design that compliments any wardrobe. All necessary materials and supplies will be provided. Ages 13+. Registration deadline: November 3. Fee: $32.

Beginning Glass Fusing, Tuesdays Nov. 17 – Dec. 1, 6 – 8:30 pm
Glass fusing is the process of using a kiln to join together pieces of glass. If you apply heat to glass, it will soften. If you continue to apply heat, the glass will become more fluid and flow together. Two or more pieces of glass will stick (or “fuse”) to each other. When the right kind of glass is heated and then cooled properly, the resulting fused glass piece will be solid and unbroken. You will make two dazzling fused glass gems and a 4″glass plate in a Hot Box kiln while learning about glass compatibility, firing schedules, annealing and other glass fusing topics. You will work with frits, glass rods, dichroic glass and other items. No previous experience is required. All materials are included. Registration deadline: November 10. Fee: $59.

Home Repair Basics for Women (Men, Too!), Thursday, Nov. 19, 6 – 9 pm
Don’t call the repairman just yet! Many home repairs are simple enough to do yourself with just a little know-how. Join us for this “hands on” home improvement series and let the electrician fix the neighbor’s switch. Our workshops will give you confidence to repair or replace electric cord plugs and lamp fixtures; patch and repair drywall holes or cracks; and complete seasonal home maintenance. No supplies required. Registration deadline: November 12. Fee: $28.

Special Techniques in Watercolor, Tuesdays, Nov. 24 – Dec. 8, 6 – 8:30 pm
Watercolor’s inherent luminosity and capacity for rapid execution are just two of the unique properties that make it so popular. Learn how to paint glass in this Special Techniques class. Instructor Marilyn Copeland is a nationally certified and accredited art instructor. You will receive a supply list when you register or view it at your convenience at www.fortwayneparks.org. Registration deadline: November 17. Fee: $48

Register on-line or call 427-6011. If you miss the registration deadline for a class, call Lee Penrod at 427-6468 to see if spots are still available.
