Historic Steam Locomotive comes home
On October 17th and 18th, the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society will celebrate the homecoming of historic Fort Wayne steam locomotive no. 765 and a successful season of operating mainline passenger excursions around Indiana and Michigan.
In May, no. 765 returned to the railroad after a sixteen year absence from operating as a goodwill ambassador for the city during which time the 65 year old locomotive was completely rebuilt to its original 1944 specifications. Since 1979, no. 765 has operated over 52,000 miles and carried over 100,000 passengers in excursion service after being removed from Lawton Park where it was on display from 1963 to 1974.
No. 765 will be under steam and operating at the Fort Wayne Railroad shops October 17th and 18th from 10AM-4PM, where caboose rides will run from 1PM-4PM in addition to numerous displays and restoration activities within the grounds.
