Students receive lesson on bus safety

Fort Wayne Community Schools press release:

Students who ride the bus to Fort Wayne Community Schools can now watch the required bus safety video on LTV-54 (Comcast) and 24 (Verizon).

FWCS’ Transportation Department runs more than 700 routes per day logging more than 16,000 miles. The buses carry more than 25,000 students to and from school and other locations, which requires a tremendous amount of care and concern by everyone involved, including the riders.

“The Safety Way Out” video explains the basics of bus evacuation in case there is an emergency on the bus. Students and classroom staff are required to view the video. Bus drivers also do a practice bus evacuation with student riders.

LTV will be showing the video through the end of September according to the following schedule:

  • Mondays at 8 a.m.
  • Tuesdays at 9 a.m.
  • Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
  • Thursdays at noon
  • Fridays at 1 p.m.

In early October, drivers will practice bus evacuations with their students.
