Press release from the IAFF Local 124:

Fort Wayne Firefighters Local 124 Will “Never Forget”
9/11 Annual Open House is Friday

In honor and remembrance on September 11, 2009, Fort Wayne Firefighters IAFF Local 124 will host their annual Open House. The doors of Old Fire Station 5, home to IAFF Local 124 (1405 Broadway), will open Friday at 4-8 p.m. The public is invited to stop by.

Politicians have worked to designate the day in memory of the 2,974 casualties in the September 11, 2001, attacks. President Obama has declared September 11th as a federally recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance. Nationally, thousands of organizations, nonprofits, employers, faith based groups and others are mobilizing hundreds of thousands of Americans to engage in service and perform good deeds in observance of the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

“Fort Wayne Firefighters annually observe this day to continue to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11,” says James Ridley, President of Fort Wayne Firefighters IAFF Local 124. “Our members hope by providing a venue, they give the Fort Wayne community the opportunity to reflect and rekindle the spirit of service, tolerance and compassion that unified America and the world in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.”
