Strengthening Families Grant Awardees Announced
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (June 1, 2009): The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (OFBCI) through its Good Works Indiana (GWIN) initiative, will announce the first round of recipients of the 2009 Strengthening Families micro-grants at a press conference on Monday June 8, 2009 at 11:00am in the Indiana State Capital building rotunda, 200 West Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Strengthening Families grants will enable awardees to create or expand employment-related services to low income families that meet TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) requirements.
Twenty-six Indiana programs; noted for their creativity, diversity of collaborative partnerships and an understanding of the grant parameters, were selected from the pool of applicants. The total award amount was $237,505.95, with individual awards averaging $9,000.00. “Now more than ever, it is necessary that grants are about more than just reassigning money,” states Derek Trovillion, grant coordinator.
“The GWIN-SF micro-grants program will work to expand an organization’s capacity and extend the reach of faith and community-based groups who give so much to their community, while also providing important opportunity to build transferable knowledge about the grant applications process.”
Representatives from the Governor and Lt. Governor’s offices, along with OFBCI will offer their congratulations to the awardees during the brief ceremony. Isaac Randolph Jr., executive director for the OFBCI, applauds the work of these organizations in supporting new opportunities for future jobs and prosperity for Indiana residents, noting that, “Putting people to work is job one.”

The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives promotes service and volunteerism in the State of Indiana. Working together with other government agencies, AmeriCorps*State programs, volunteer centers, and faith-based and community organizations, the OFBCI helps Hoosiers to develop and implement solutions in their own communities.
