Allen County Code now available online

Press release from Allen County:

Allen County Code Now Available Online
Free access made possible through IPFW’s Helmke Library

Is “open burning” permitted in unincorporated Allen County? What does it mean when the County issues a level “Red” winter weather event? The answers to these and other questions involving the Allen County Code can now be found by anyone online. The Allen County Board of Commissioners today announced it has partnered with the IPFW Walter E. Helmke Library to provide free access to an online version of the Allen County Code, including all documents referenced in the code.

The Allen County Code can be accessed under Featured Sites on the county website’s homepage. It is also available on the web.

“This is just another example of the Board of Commissioners’ commitment to helping Allen County residents connect to local government and improve their access to information,” said Chris Cloud, Commissioners’ Executive Assistant, who worked with IPFW on this project.

“Through enhancements to the county website, use of social media, and, with the help of IPFW, making the Allen County Code accessible to anyone, anywhere, anytime via the Internet, we are making Allen County more accessible to those who reach for a search engine instead of a phone book.”

Each title of the County Code is displayed individually and can be searched by keyword or by specific Article section. The Allen County Commissioner’s Office will provide quarterly updates to the code and a year-end final version that will be archived in the IPFW Helmke Library’s historical digital collection.

This project continues an effort begun in 2006 by the IPFW Helmke Library to digitize local government documents beginning with major economic development reports which are currently online.

The online version of the code has been converted from digital files provided by the Allen County Commissioner’s office and serves as an unofficial copy. To obtain official copies of code sections for use in legal transactions, contact the issuing agency or the Commissioners’ Office.
