Renaissance Pointe YMCA groundbreaking ceremony on September 1st

The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne has scheduled the groundbreaking ceremony for its new Renaissance Pointe YMCA branch for Tuesday, September 1st at 11:30AM. The state-of-the-art family recreation and wellness facility will be located near the intersection of Bowser and Hurd Streets, behind the Fort Wayne Police Department’s headquarters.

YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne President & CEO Marty Pastura says, “The Renaissance Pointe YMCA will replace two aging YMCA facilities that now serve the area while at the same time combining the rich heritage of the Old Fort and Southeast Family YMCAs. We are proud to be a part of the City’s revitalization efforts and to help support an economic revival in the southeast and central neighborhoods. The YMCA will turn a reclaimed brownfield site into a vibrant, green facility that will provide area residents with After School Care, Summer Day Camp, Youth Sports, a Family Resource Center, Computer Learning Lab, Teen Center, Arts Education, and much more.”

According to City of Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry, “We are pleased to partner with the YMCA on this community asset. Never before has the City given such a large grant to a public facility, but the $1.75 million is a tangible sign of our support and commitment to what will be an anchor in the heart of the community. The Renaissance Pointe YMCA will be an anchor for the neighborhood and a beautiful facility where families will participate in healthy opportunities, learning and socializing.”

YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne Director of Marketing & Development Toni Kayumi says, “We have secured $5,704,467 for the new $6,500,000 Renaissance Pointe YMCA and will continue with our capital campaign during the facility’s construction. Neighborhood residents will see fencing and site clearing beginning on the property this week. We estimate that it will take approximately 12 months to complete our association’s newest membership branch.”
