Local high school receives projector from the American Red Cross
Red Cross High School Program teaches students the importance of blood donationWith the ongoing need for blood, the Red Cross relies on a new generation of blood donors to help save lives. Approximately 15 percent of our blood collections come from young people, so high schools are very important to helping maintain an adequate blood supply.
The American Red Cross high school program educates students about the need for blood and encourages high school administrations to host several Red Cross blood drives throughout the school year. Awards such as drawings for laptops and projectors are given to school systems that hosts two to four blood drives with a 35% or greater student body participation rate. Not to mention, schools that host four blood drives have the opportunity to nominate one of their students for a $2,000 college scholarship.
This year, The American Red Cross is proud to award Concordia Lutheran High School with a brand new projector valued at $600. Concordia Lutheran High School hosted two blood drives this school year and 36.7% of its eligible student population donated blood.
Concordia Lutheran High School has held Red Cross blood drives for the past three years. The school plans to continue to help in the effort to save lives again next year.
