Mayor’s Senior Advisory Council to hold free Senior Workshop, August 10th
Professionals to cover estate, funeral planning plus Medicaid rules, aging in place, living willsJoining members of the Mayor’s Senior Advisory Council, Mayor Tom Henry announced a free workshop for seniors featuring local professionals to cover topics of importance to many seniors and their families.
“This workshop is specifically designed to cover information important to one of Fort Wayne’s growing populations: senior citizens. These are often complex issues, and it can be difficult to find a single resource to cover the diversity of topics this session will address,” Mayor Henry said. “I give my sincere thanks to the presenters and the entire Mayor’s Senior Advisory Council for putting together this important workshop.”
The free session will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Omni Room, with free parking in the parking garage attached to the City-County Building. No RSVP is needed, but for more information, call 427-1120.
Topics for the Aug. 10 workshop include:
- Estate planning
- Medicaid rules and recent changes
- Living wills
- Aging in place with a focus on personal pre-planning and governmental services
- Funeral planning
“The Mayor’s Senior Advisory Council has been working toward a more senior-friendly community, and this workshop is part of that effort,” said Diann McCormick, MSAC chair and workshop presenter. “This free session with leading local professionals on these topics is going to be a great opportunity for Fort Wayne residents. If this session goes well, we will look to more of them in the future.”
The session’s presenters are MSAC members Diann McCormick, Aging & In-Home Services; Stephen Adair, Certified Elder Law Attorney with Beers, Mallers, Backs & Salin, LLP; and Jane Gerardot, J.D., C.T.F.A. with Boeglin, Troyer & Gerardot, PC. The council may host additional workshops in the coming months.
The Mayor’s Senior Advisory Council is a group of seniors and professionals serving seniors. The council meets monthly to advise Mayor Henry on issues of importance to the senior community in Fort Wayne.
