What’s Happening in the Parks July 22nd – 31st 2009
Summer Playground Carnivals – The whole family will enjoy a FREE evening filled with fun and games, including animals and clowns. The Waynedale Park Carnival is July 22, 5-7 pm and the Lions Park Carnival is July 23, 5-7 pm. Have your face painted, or try to win a prize in the ring toss, duck pond, candy wheel or fish pond.
Foellinger Theatre: The 60th anniversary season continues with the following toe-tapping performances, sponsored in part by Arts United and the Indiana Arts Commission:
Friday, July 24 at 8 pm – The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. Over 50 years since the public first embraced the successful Miller sound, both the legend and the music live on. With a repertoire which now exceeds 1,200 compositions, the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra remains the most sought after big-band in the world. Fee: $6. Sponsored by: 102.9 The River, Lincoln Financial Foundation and PBS 39.
Saturday, July 25 at 8 pm – The Bluz Brothers. The Bluz Brothers are an eight piece band dedicated to the great R & B sounds made popular by Jake and Elwood Blues of Calumet City, Illinois. It is their mission to carry on the tradition until the BOYS make parole or until they are incarcerated themselves—whichever comes first. Fee: $5. Sponsored by: 92.3 The Fort.
Sunday, July 26, 2:30 pm – The Northeast Indiana Banjo Society. The Northeast Indiana Banjo Society wish to share their twentieth anniversary with the audience at Foellinger Theatre. They will give you a pleasant afternoon of traditional banjo music. Fee: FREE.
Thursday, July 30, 8 pm – The US Coast Guard Band. The United States Coast Guard Band will appear at the Theatre for an enjoyable evening of military style music. Fee: FREE. Sponsored by: Fort Wayne Newspapers.
Botanical Conservatory: The Botanical Roots Outdoor Concert Series begins on Friday, July 31 with Deals Gone Bad. Combining elements of ska, rocksteady, reggae, and American soul, Deal’s Gone Bad will appeal to fans of both soul and Jamaican music, as well as anyone looking for a turn on the floor or a song in their hearts. Admission: $6/ages 13 and up, free for ages 12 and under. Conservatory members admitted FREE. Doors open at 7:30 pm with the opening act at 8:30 pm.
