Rod Woodson to be honored at Parkview Field.

Snider and Purdue football star Rod Woodson will be honored 6:30 p.m. Monday at Parkview field.  From the News-Sentinel:

“Fort Wayne Salutes Rod Woodson” could be the next-best thing to being at the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.

As a bonus, local fans won’t have to leave the city, and admission is free.

The Fort Wayne Sports Corp., acting on an idea by long-time local sports supporter Larry Lee, will honor Woodson at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Parkview Field.

“We don’t have many Hall of Famers in any sports come from Fort Wayne,” Sports Corp. President Art Saltsberg said. “This is a big deal for the city and we should take great pride in it.”

Woodson will attend the event, which will last an hour and feature a video of Woodson’s career, along with several speakers.

Among the speakers will be Woodson’s former Snider High School coach, Mike Hawley, as well as people who have been connected with Woodson at Purdue University and during his years running the Rod Woodson Football Camp. Mayor Tom Henry is also expected to speak. The city is partnering with the Sports Corp. to stage the event.

“We have some nice surprises lined up for Rod,” Saltsberg said.  […]
