Press release from the City:

City extends deadline for homeowner repair programs
Applications Already Out Will be Accepted Until June 30

The City of Fort Wayne is extending its June 15 deadline to June 30 for homeowners to return applications for various homeowner repair programs. Included programs are retrofitting for senior and disabled populations, energy and water conservation upgrades, targeted area façade programs and general homeowner repair concerns.

“We’ve had requests for more than 800 applications,” said Deputy Director of Community Development Heather Presley. “The applications require three contractor bids and we are hearing from homeowners that they are working with contractors but the system is inundated. We have received an overwhelming response and want to do what we can to help homeowners have enough time to return applications already in process. We anticipated a strong response to these programs as the current economy has forced many homeowners to delay needed repairs, but our expectations have been surpassed by the interest shown.”

Presley said they are working with community agency partners to help identify more resources to address what is clearly a widespread need among homeowners to address basic repairs.

Applications may still be requested through noon, Monday, June 15, by calling 427-1127 but for those homeowners who have already received applications, those are not due until noon on June 30, 2009.
