Governor to announce budget proposal tonight

I saw Indiana State Representative Phil GiaQuinta earlier today, and he shared with me that a date for the Special Session to begin has not been announced.  From the Governor’s e-mail list:

Governor to announce budget proposal tonight

Governor Daniels will reach out directly to Hoosiers tonight (June 1st) to outline his budget proposal for the 2010 and 2011 fiscal years. He will describe his plan during remarks that will be broadcast live on many local television and radio stations at 6 p.m. EDT. “Indiana is one of the very few states that has not cut education, and we’re one of the few that has not raised taxes and that still has a healthy reserve fund to protect taxpayers against any increase. The budget we’ll present next week will preserve Indiana’s special position as a place of fiscal prudence and security,” said Daniels.

A formal budget presentation will be made to a bi-partisan legislative committee on Tuesday. Later in June, the governor will convene legislators for a special session to write a budget because one was not approved during the regular legislative session that ended in April. The fiscal year ends June 30.

The governor’s remarks will be approximately 5 minutes in length. Archived video, audio and a transcript of his remarks will be posted on the governor’s web page upon conclusion of the address.
