Press Release from the City:

City, downtown partners host Harrison Street Corridor design workshop
Ball State students will conduct community charrette Friday, Saturday

The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division in cooperation with the Downtown Improvement District and the Fort Wayne Chapter of the American Institute of Architects will host a community design workshop for the Harrison Street corridor between the north entrance of the Grand Wayne Center and the St. Marys River.

The community is invited to stop by the open workshop anytime from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Hamilton Hall on the second floor of the downtown Hilton, 1020 S. Calhoun St. A meeting with downtown stakeholders will be tonight.

As part of the college’s Community Based Projects program, Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning students will conduct a charrette where the public can stop by and comment about their thoughts and vision for this section of downtown that has potential for infill redevelopment.

Ball State’s charrette process uses an intense two- or three-day community-based workshop as a tool for initially responding to community-defined issues, problems, or potentials. It relies on community participation and is usually used at the beginning of a planning and design process.

Later this spring, the City and DID will receive drawings and concepts about the corridor, together with an urban design analysis based on the students’ documentation. It could help provide guidelines for future development of the area.
