The second section of St. Peter’s Steeple has been raised. Â One section left to top out the structure. Â Some facts about the steeple from the St. Peter’s Church bulletin, dated December 28th 2008:
Steeple Facts
The following information was provided by Joseph P.Kinder, President of Tecton Corporation, the contractor responsible for the design and installation of the new steeple.
The steeple is being constructed in three sections.
The base section is approximately 22′ diagonally across at the octagon points at the bottom by 20′ tall and weighs 20,800 lbs.
The mid section is approximately 16′ diagonally across at the octagon points at the bottom by 20′ tall and weighs 14,950 lbs.
The top section is approximately 11′ diagonally across at the octagon points at the bottom by 33′ tall and weighs 14,150 lbs.
The elevation of the top of the limestone parapet where the new steeple will bear is approximately 125′ above the street.
The copper cross is approximately 13′ tall and only weighs about 100 lbs. The top of the cross will be 211′ above the street.
The copper cross will be slid over the top of a 6″ x 6″ square steel tube by 2 men in a basket suspended by the crane.
The crane that will be used to set the steeple sections and the cross will have 260′ of boom & jib and will have to reach 65′ horizontally from it’s center point to the center of the steeple.
