City Seeks Input About Proposed Parking Authority
Business owners, public invited to hear more about downtown parking plansThe City of Fort Wayne will host two sessions open to the public next week to explore ways to implement a parking authority for downtown.
Representatives from Carl Walker, a parking consultant that the City has been working with to review downtown parking, will make a presentation and take comments and questions from the audience.
The sessions will be 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday (9/23/2008) and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday (9/24/2008) at the Grand Wayne Center.
The proposed parking authority, which is currently under development, will serve a planning purpose to ensure downtown parking inventory is developed and coordinated strategically in alignment with the other goals of downtown revitalization.
The City has worked with a steering committee and Carl Walker to develop the preliminary plans. The authority would only have jurisdiction in downtown Fort Wayne.
“As private developers, business owners and the City of Fort Wayne continue to rebuild and revitalize our downtown, we must review our parking strategies to make sure these valuable spaces, both on the street and in garages, are friendly to everyone who uses our downtown to live, work and play,” said Mayor Tom Henry. “If you are a downtown stakeholder, I’d like to invite you to attend one of these sessions to get more information about what we are proposing and give us feedback.”
