The Fort Wayne Museum of Art Announces
American Art Initiative Capital Campaign

The plans are in! The word is out! Fort Wayne Museum of Art Board Chair Cheri Becker today announced a $7.5 million American Art Initiative Capital Campaign. Executive Director Charles A. Shepard III said “These funds will be used to add over 10,000 square feet to the museum doubling our gallery space. In addition, we plan to design a new public lecture and meeting space; incorporate our library into a new art resource education center; energize the atrium creating a new center for cultural life in downtown Fort Wayne, and expand our permanent collection creating a more coherent collection of American Art.” Of the total funds raised, $5.5 million will be dedicated for the expansion and reconfiguration of the facility with $2 million used to enhance the permanent collection of American Art to provide fine and decorative arts from Colonial to Contemporary periods. While the Museum galleries may be closed for a brief time during construction, we will strive to remain open to the public.

Cheri Becker who also serves as Executive Director of Invent Tomorrow said “Fort Wayne is blessed with strong cultural institutions, such as the Museum of Art, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Fort Wayne Ballet, and others that have not only played an important role historically, but are paving the way to redefining Fort Wayne’s future as a cultural and entertainment destination.”

The Museum has been quietly raising funds and to date has secured over $5.3 million in cash and pledges. “All members of our board of trustees have played leadership roles in the ongoing success of this campaign,” Shepard said. “I am so excited to have Ian and Mimi Rolland serve as our Honorary Campaign Chairs. Also, Jackson Lehman has provided valuable assistance as our Advisory Campaign Chair” Ground breaking is expected in mid summer. The architectural firm of Morrison Kattman Menze Inc has been hired as lead architects for the project.
